WSA Opportunities

My name is Laura Wilcox and along with my business partner Mallika Chaudhuri, we are the Creative Directors of Kensal Studio. We are a print design company based in Portobello, West London.

Our team is made up of textile and fashion industry professionals with a great deal of experience. My business partner Mallika and I have both worked as textile designers for large fashion retailers throughout our careers, myself at Monsoon for 11 years and more recently within Arcadia. Mallika spent many years in Barcelona working for Inditex brands (including Zara, Stradivarius, Bershka to name a few).

Since we launched in December we have been working with brands such as Asos, Marks and Spencer, Phase Eight, Warehouse, Debenhams, New Look, Arcadia brands, Monsoon/Accessorize. Mango and Inditex brands over in Spain such as Zara, Massimo Dutti and Bershka.

Print/textile design graduates:

Designers can work for us on a freelance basis, working to our focused, commercial design briefs they can add print design work into our collection which we then take out on sales appointments, to sell in-house to fashion companies. We have an agreement with individual designers depending on their experience, in terms of commission rates on each design sold. This way of working can of course be very lucrative if a designer can produce commercial, sellable work.

It is also fantastic experience for new designers to understand commercial print design, work on specific briefs from both UK and European fashion brands under the creative direction of myself and Mallika.

There are also genuine possibilities that if we find the right person/people, there will also be in-house positions available in the future.

We are really keen to hear from potential graduates who may be interested in the opportunity sooner rather than later, as we are regularly needing new work in our collection.
