Joined-up Jazz
‘Joined-up Jazz’ is a new local organisation that is aiming to launch a jazz festival in Winchester this Summer. Founder Tim Fell has invited WSA students to participate in a competition to develop the identity and branding for the new organisation and festival.
Although the work will be unpaid, there is the possibility of a cash prize and the winning team can add to their CV / portfolio a large-scale cultural branding project. The branding will include a wide range of applications from flyers to a web pressence.
The competition is open to all WSA students, but entrants must a have basic working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite Software; InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and be in teams with max. of 3, and min. of 2 students per team.
1. TONE OF VOICE/FEEL
Audience: As wide as possible! Students, young professionals to the Paleozoic. Music, of course. New music. Original music. Innovative music.
Spontaneous. Exciting. Fun. Cool. Hip. Modern. (Or post-modern?).
Not nostalgic. Not square. Not age-specific.
2. BRIEF
Interested students should submit an A3 PDF with ideas for a logo design, an A5 flyer and a sentence outlining the idea behind their visuals to: j.branch@soton.ac.uk by Fri 12th Feb.
— The logo should be designed flexibly to accommodate x3 wording versions and visuals should show these variations:
Joined-up Jazz
Joined-up Jazz Education
Joined-up Jazz Festivals
— Portrait A5 flyer
Please use stock images and dummy text, or cut and paste text from another event for this exercise
3. INSPIRATION
PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR FULL NAMES AND EMAIL ADDRESSES ON YOUR WORK
4. NEXTSTEPS
Once WSA staff have received and reviewed the work with the organisation’s stakeholders they will contact all entrants with feedback and announce the winning team.
The winning team will then be fully briefed at a meeting with staff and the trustees and the project will commence.
5. PAYMENT
The winning students will gain a fantastic project for their portfolios and be credited on all the publicity materials and the website. We also hope to be able to offer the winner and runners-up small cash prizes, as well, but the feasibility of this depends on our finding a commercial sponsor or sponsors for the inaugural festival.
Good luck!
