Editorial Assistant Internship – benchpeg

benchpeg is an online publication in the luxury goods sector, specifically the jewellery industry and allied trades. We send out a weekly newsletter to our subscription base of some 9.3k readers and update our website with news items, jobs, opportunities, professional development and classified listings.
Predominantly we have a B2B focus, our readership covers all areas of jewellery, the allied trades, crafts, design and business development.
In 2016 we turn ten years old and are currently developing a new website which will be responsive and add functionality and features we previously haven’t had.
We were the first digital newsletter for the UK jewellery industry and as such are nationally and internationally consumed. We have a presence on social media and 2016 will mark a ramp up in efforts to progress the brand and its market share.

About the job:
We are now currently recruiting for a part time intern to assist with administrative tasks, copy writing, copy editing, web content publication, preparation of images and artwork for publication across our media channels and assistance with our social media channels.

What the role involves:
– copy editing received press releases and making them publication ready
– creating image files and manipulating them in Photoshop for publication
– creating unique content
– gathering news feeds
– social media management and curation
– contacting press officers, PRs, companies and individuals for content, images and interviews
– keeping up to speed with news stories, feeds and trends for possible content curation

As we move over to a new content management system and responsive website, part of the job will be to assist with the transition by assisting with backend admin in relation to content and SEO provision.

Additional tasks might involve:
– providing general administrative support
– requesting images/information from brands
– adding contacts to a CMS
– resizing images in Photoshop
– setting up stories, including uploading copy/resizing and uploading images and writing captions, in a CMS

Person specification:
The ideal candidate will be someone who:
– has a high level of written and spoken English language (A-level standard or equivalent)
– is highly organised
– is in control of personal time management
– is able to work to deadlines
– is computer literate
– is highly efficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, Adobe software including Photoshop
– is able to use both Apple Macs and PCs
– is creative
– has an understanding of design, creativity and fashion
– likes using the written word
– has an eye for trends and style
– has an interest in jewellery, silverware, metalwork, making, luxury goods, the crafts and applied arts
– has a willingness to listen and learn and to take on responsibility
– is personable, polite, happy and has a sense of humour

How we work:
benchpeg is a purely online business and as such run a virtual office. The intern will work alongside the Editor. The office is based in a rural location and would suit an individual with the means to drive to the specified location.

Hours: To be negotiated, but it is envisaged that a minimum of six hours a week to start
Fee: £8.25 per hour
