Ashgate Gallery Volunteers

Call for volunteers for the New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham (Flexible hours)

We are looking for enthusiastic gallery volunteers who wish to either support a local arts organisation and/or gain experience of some/all of the following tasks:

•             working directly with the public

•             helping deliver the PR and Marketing strategy

•             Dealing with customers through art and craft sales

•             Installing and dismounting exhibitions

•             Supporting gallery education and local community workshops

•             Supporting artists

•             Supporting events including private views and workshops

•             Engaging with gallery audience through audience surveys and feedback

A gallery environment such as the New Ashgate Gallery is required to manage a vast variety of practices from marketing, to working with people, to managing a town centre location.  Knowledge and skills you can gain from working with staff members can not only offer vital experience but also help you clarify in which professional direction you wish to focus on for your career.

Our recent success stories:  Rachel who has been volunteering with us on Wednesdays has just been offered a job with Parker Harris and Sarah who has been volunteering with us on Fridays has just been offered a position at the V&A.  We are so pleased for them both and delighted that our volunteering opportunity has helped them kick start their career

More information about the gallery:  The New Ashgate Gallery is dedicated to promote the best contemporary art and craft in the market place and to provide an unparalleled resource in Farnham, Surrey and beyond. The trust delivers exhibitions and projects in the gallery and the community, fostering emerging artists and supporting diverse participation in arts. Gallery address and location:

New Ashgate Gallery Trust, Waggon Yard, Farnham, Surrey GU9 7PS

The gallery is situated on the edge of Waggon Yard car park, the corner of Downing Street and Union Road. We are a five minute walk from Farnham Station that is served from London Waterloo (55 minutes).

The Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturdays, 10am-5pm, however there are occasional weekend and evening events during special occasions. The New Ashgate Gallery works towards equality and diversity.

Personnel specification:

The successful applicant will have a keen interest in working in retail arts and crafts, has a polite manner and basic IT skills and works well on own initiative and in a team.
