CC-BY-SA-3.0.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Great Pyramid at Giza (Egypt) was built for the Pharaoh Khufu (also known by the Greek version of his name \u2013 Cheops), who died <i>c.<\/i> 2566 BC. Khufu\u2019s monument was the first of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World to be created, and is the only one still standing now.<\/p>\n<p>Khufu was the third Pharaoh of the 4<sup>th<\/sup> Dynasty (during the Old Kingdom in ancient Egypt). It is not known why he chose to build his pyramid at Giza (well away from those of his predecessors) or why he chose to build it at a location that was not actually at the highest point on the plateau.<\/p>\n<p>The pyramid took 20 years to build, now stands 138m tall.
