{"id":700,"date":"2011-03-11T12:25:10","date_gmt":"2011-03-11T12:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/webteam\/?p=700"},"modified":"2011-03-11T12:25:10","modified_gmt":"2011-03-11T12:25:10","slug":"easy-wins-with-southampton-building-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/webteam\/2011\/03\/11\/easy-wins-with-southampton-building-data\/","title":{"rendered":"Easy wins with Southampton building data"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve made the first (hopefully of many!) changes on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecs.soton.ac.uk\/\">ECS website<\/a> to take advantage of date made available at <a href=\"http:\/\/data.southampton.ac.uk\/\">http:\/\/data.southampton.ac.uk\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The change was simply to start linking to building pages (e.g. <a href=\"http:\/\/data.southampton.ac.uk\/building\/32.html\">building 32<\/a>) anywhere that we list a building by number.<\/p>\n<p>We do this a lot more on our intranet pages, and also on some public pages such as our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecs.soton.ac.uk\/seminars\/\">seminars and events<\/a> pages.<\/p>\n<p>Though it was a trivial change to implement, it shows the value we can add (maps, photos and building facilities in this case) to our sites and applications just by being able to talk <em>about<\/em> a thing directly, rather than just about the name of a thing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve made the first (hopefully of many!) changes on the ECS website to take advantage of date made available at http:\/\/data.southampton.ac.uk\/.
