{"id":130,"date":"2015-02-14T18:03:57","date_gmt":"2015-02-14T18:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sarahkyle27.wordpress.com\/?p=98"},"modified":"2015-02-14T18:03:57","modified_gmt":"2015-02-14T18:03:57","slug":"topic-1-reflective-summary-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/uosm2008-2015\/2015\/02\/14\/topic-1-reflective-summary-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Topic 1: Reflective Summary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week\u2019s topic focused on exploring the concept of digital \u201cvisitors\u201d and \u201cresidents\u201d, drawing on our own experiences and theories by Prensky, Cornu and White.<\/p>\n<p>By engaging with other members of UOSM2008, I was able to gain a deeper understanding and new thoughts on the topic. \u00a0When reading <a href=\"https:\/\/nicoleodofin.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/08\/topic-1-digital-residents-and-visitors\/\" >Nicole\u2019s<\/a> response, I realised I could relate more of my own experiences to this week\u2019s theories (at the time of my first blog post, I could only think of one example: my mum as a digital \u201cvisitor\u201d).\u00a0 Though my view of the older generation was not the same as Nicole&#8217;s, I did find it useful in reading an alternative opinion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/francescacharnley.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/07\/topic-1-the-concept-of-digital-visitors-and-residents\/\" >Francesca\u2019s<\/a> blog provoked new questions on digital \u201cresidents\u201d and \u201cvisitors\u201d.\u00a0 Her post highlighted a large portion of older professionals that are digital \u201cresidents\u201d due to their online presence and use of online networking.\u00a0 This provoked me to consider whether digital \u2018residency\u2019 is a potential issue if both our personal and professional lives are online &#8211; it now feels like people have to choose to be offline, than online, like a reverse &#8220;visitor&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Though we were all set the same topic and reading, I found it really interesting how each blog was different, with a different focus\u00a0in every argument.\u00a0 I also discovered how style can impact a blog.\u00a0 The strength of Nicole\u2019s introduction, with the inclusion of an external quote, is something I would like to include in future blog posts.\u00a0 Additionally, other blogs managed to embed Youtube videos within their text to make their work more visually engaging, whereas my hyperlink was less effective.<\/p>\n<p>The most important aspect I\u2019ve learnt from Topic 1, however, is the value of reading other member\u2019s blogs, even if opinions differ.\u00a0 Ultimately, they still spark new topics of debate which we wouldn\u2019t get if we simply read the set texts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>  <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/feeds.wordpress.com\/1.0\/gocomments\/sarahkyle27.wordpress.com\/98\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.wordpress.com\/1.0\/comments\/sarahkyle27.wordpress.com\/98\/\" \/><\/a> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/pixel.wp.com\/b.gif?host=sarahkyle27.wordpress.com&#038;blog=70254599&#038;%23038;post=98&#038;%23038;subd=sarahkyle27&#038;%23038;ref=&#038;%23038;feed=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week&rsquo;s topic focused on exploring the concept of digital &ldquo;visitors&rdquo; and &ldquo;residents&rdquo;, drawing on our own experiences and theories by Prensky, Cornu and White.
