It<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">\u2019<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">s<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"> <span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">very<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\"> easy to accept such simple, self-evidently accurate terms,<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"> <span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">and not<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\"> question them.<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\"> And in<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\"> this case, I think I\u2019m guilty of failing to challenge their<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"> <span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">nature<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">The reality is there are a multitude of different ways of characterising people, for example; do they trust the web or don\u2019t they, do they take the web with them (on their smartphones) or leave it behind them, do they contribute to knowledge (via Wikipedia etc) or just leave social markers, etc.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">Before you develop labels you should define<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"> <span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">their purpose<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">. For example, are you labelling people because you want to identify those you can sell something to, to identify those who need training, or to identify security risks. I haven&#8217;t read Prensky\u2019s, White or Le Cornu\u2019s work in detail but nothing I have seen so far\u00a0defined what the purpose of the labels were.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">At this point I\u2019m looking at these simple labels and asking if they are of more than academic interest.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">In any case, our blogs, like all collaborative platforms, enabled us to share our views. Andrew Ghiacy\u2019s embedded YouTube video of a<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"> <span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">baby<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\"> trying to interact with a magazine was the post that triggered the most inward debate for me, re: the extent to which we might become \u2018trapped\u2019 by a mind-set introduced by the web.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class='embed-youtube' style='text-align:center; display: block;'><iframe class='youtube-player' type='text\/html' width='656' height='399' src='https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cqxwtEdxOCw?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;%23038;fs=1&#038;%23038;showsearch=0&#038;%23038;showinfo=1&#038;%23038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;%23038;wmode=transparent' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen='true'><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">An\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">example of this is the world postulated by Isaac Asimov (twentieth century science fiction writer) in which people used \u2018remote viewing\u2019 to see each other; to actually physically meet anyone was regarded as repugnant.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><span lang=\"en-gb\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;\">Who knows what paths the web will take and what labels we will ultimately need.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/feeds.wordpress.com\/1.0\/gocomments\/tamaramanton.wordpress.com\/8\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.wordpress.com\/1.0\/comments\/tamaramanton.wordpress.com\/8\/\" \/><\/a> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/pixel.wp.com\/b.gif?host=tamaramanton.wordpress.com&#038;blog=84549585&#038;%23038;post=8&#038;%23038;subd=tamaramanton&#038;%23038;ref=&#038;%23038;feed=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first topic introduced some relatively&nbsp;simple concepts &hellip;.&rsquo;Visitors&rsquo;, &lsquo;Residents&rsquo;, &lsquo;Natives&rsquo; and &lsquo;Immigrants&rsquo;.
