I hadn&#8217;t been aware that a whopping 99%\u00a0employers used LinkedIn to search potential employees, and the fact that the majority of them state that they have ruled out a candidate due to something negative they found online\u00a0really brings home the fact that online identity plays a huge role in one&#8217;s professional life.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, I&#8217;ve concluded that these stats shouldn&#8217;t scare us.<\/p>\n<p>Hayley, in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hhayleymatthews.wordpress.com\/2015\/03\/08\/topic-3-online-professional-profiles-its-all-about-the-brand\/#comments\" >her blog<\/a>, discussed how important it is to &#8220;brand ourselves&#8221;, and provides a link to a video demonstrating her view that in order to\u00a0develop an authentic professional profile it is important to be active and relevant.\u00a0While she started the post with the line:\u00a0&#8220;Unfortunately,\u00a0our online behaviour is socially and culturally judged&#8221;, invoking that it&#8217;s a negative thing, I feel that\u00a0her findings actually showed that the visibility of our online identities is incredibly positive and exciting.<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0Zia,\u00a0in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ziaahmed2014.wordpress.com\/2015\/03\/06\/topic-3-create-an-authentic-online-professional-profile\/\" >his blog<\/a>, listed the\u00a0minimum requirements for any online professional profile, implying that we must\u00a0&#8220;fit in&#8221; to what is expected, he also provided a video about being &#8220;attractive&#8221; and actually standing out to employers.<\/p>\n<p>I believe that this attempt to stand out, by going beyond the &#8220;minimum requirements&#8221; doing things such as blogging, providing a video, or anything that is specific to the field one wishes to pursue, is the way to get the best out of one&#8217;s professional online identity.<\/p>\n<div id=\"primary\" class=\"content-area\">\n<article id=\"post-59\" class=\"post-59 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-topic-3\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>\u00a0Making sure there&#8217;s nothing &#8216;negative&#8217; on your online profiles is not hard.
