Ok, perhaps I’m a month late, or maybe it’s just because now is the first time it really feels like one given the intense start to the new term. Within the first two weeks back after the festive break, we had seven major coursework deadlines (yes – seven!), which was immediately followed by a spell of three exams in three days right at the beginning of the exam period and then finally one more at the start of the second week! The pressure has been higher than that on the Empire State Building’s foundations multiplied by that of an elephant dancing on a drawing pin…so much in fact that it has caused such terrible analogies! But at last Semester 1 has drawn to a close and we all have a chance to draw our collective breath. The few days off before Semester 2 kicks into action is very much needed! As for the exams themselves, I was pretty pleased with how they all went – there was nothing completely abstract or overly different to what we’d been taught which is always good, so hopefully I’ll be happy when results time comes around again.

Hmmm, I’m now at the point that I feel is about half-way through for an appropriately sized blog and I have to admit that since my last entry I’ve reached this stage twice before ‘going away to finish it later’. Alas, that never quite happened, so I’m determined to make it all the way to the finish this time! Alongside having a rest, I’ve been using the few free days to try and sort out a work placement over the summer. There are a lot more jobs available then when I was looking a year ago now that the worst of the recession is thankfully over. Also, I think I left it a bit too late last time around as well which didn’t help, hence why I’m hoping to get something sorted out soon. However, I know from past experience that getting a summer internship can be really beneficial to your studies, as well as getting some much needed cash! There have been several things that have really benefited me this year, that I never would have expected at the time, and besides, any work you get is always good experience and a necessary first step on the ladder. I’m having to play the waiting game for now though, so I will keep you posted on how I get on!

Right, I think I’ve made it!
