First week at Ericsson & Exam Results

Hello my lovely blog readers 🙂

I think the first thing to say is “yayy I got a 2:1 for first year”!! It’s first year so technically I got 25 more percents than I need, but it’s still nice to say you got a decent grade and didn’t ‘just pass’ – but it kind of means I need to keep it up for two more years now I’ve done it once!!

The second is to give some sort of review of the first week of my internship with Ericsson. I spent most of the first week getting used to the place, and the framework I’m going to be spending the bulk of my time on. It’s all written in C/C++ which I hadn’t had much exposure to using beyond “hello world”, although I could follow the structure of it. The way I learned Java, Ruby and PHP were by looking at big projects and seeing how they fit together because there’s usually a real-world example of everything, and given I’m fairly confident with it only a week later either shows I’m just a natural genius (possible…) or that I’ve found a good way to learn.

Hopefully during the time I’ll get to play with some low-level stuff, shifting bits around and reading signals from hardware, which is really different to everything I’ve done in the past – but there are also some “ideas” for high-level applications floating around so it would be good to be able to put my name on a project and “leave a legacy” rather than being another name on the git blame list!!

I’ll post another update in a couple of weeks when I’m more into it and can explain what exactly I’ve been doing – it’ll save me writing a CV I’ll just send all the potential employers this way!!
