New Beginnings

Hello world. Over the period of the next three years, I will be posting in this little space, with (hopefully) useful insights of university life.
I was born and bred in Singapore, a little country in south-eastern Asia. Climatically speaking, Singapore is hot all year round – as compared to Southampton, which is freezing (by my standards) at the moment. Journey to the UK took a killer 18 hours. That’s how far away from home i am…’
New beginnings are exciting, but also intimidating – it means stepping out of your comfort zone, which we are genetically inclined to shun. One quality I have always lacked is the courage to approach strangers, and engage in a conversation. Ironically, the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture, and to grow from it is one of the major reasons why i came to Southampton in the first place. The School seems to recognize these concerns, putting into place multiple orientation activities such as International Week, Jumpstart and Bunfight. All these activities have kept me busy for the first few weeks, and also played an important role in closing certain social gaps and insecurities I had when i first came.
That’s all for now. See you guys in a bit.
