{"id":15,"date":"2013-01-29T18:00:44","date_gmt":"2013-01-29T18:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sociam\/?p=15"},"modified":"2013-01-29T18:05:45","modified_gmt":"2013-01-29T18:05:45","slug":"datapalette-at-chi2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sociam\/2013\/01\/29\/datapalette-at-chi2013\/","title":{"rendered":"DataPalette at CHI2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are pleased to announce that one of our first SOCIAM conference papers has been accepted for presentation at <a title=\"CHI 2013\" href=\"http:\/\/chi2013.acm.org\" target=\"_blank\">CHI2013<\/a> in Paris on April 27, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Our paper, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/eprints.soton.ac.uk\/347760\/\" target=\"_blank\">Carp\u00e9 Data: Supporting Serendipitous Data Integration in Personal Information Management<\/a>&#8221; discusses 3 studies examining goal of enabling end-users to bring together arbitrary data sources from around the Web for performing more effective sensemaking.<\/p>\n<p>Our two pre-studies demonstrated that, despite the convergence seen on the Web, people still regularly draw information from a plurality of data sources when making important decisions, and that these data sources extensively exhibit primarily simple kinds of heterogeneity.<\/p>\n<p>Our final study in the paper is an evaluation of DataPalette, an interface that supports direct-manipulation-based end-user data integration \u00a0to solve the most common types of heterogeneity they would encounter.<\/p>\n<p>See a video of DataPalette in action:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YwG3jNuDNjg\">DataPalette demonstration video<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The paper will be presented by Max Van Kleek and Daniel Alexander Smith at CHI2013 on April 27, 2013 in Paris, France.
