This post looks at related news to our proposed social networking app. Just 5 days ago, a swap swapping skill website called Vendeve was launched. This site caters only for women and is by invitation only. The website claims to be the world’s first skills marketplace for women only. “On Vendeve, you can market up to 10 of your skills and also list up to 10 skills that you’re looking to receive, and include a range of things like marketing, writing, yoga instruction, and even personal shopping”. Then, you can either find others who are looking for your services and propose a swap, or bid on an already open auction someone has listed for a specific skill set they can give to you.
Found this other article posted in the Guardian explains what ”bartering” is and how it is been used in Greece. The author Charlotte Baxter is of the opinion that the exchange of goods and services are fast becoming the norm and gave an example of time banks being used by the unemployed in Spain. The Skillted app works just in a similar fashion to the trade and barter system only that in this case it is skills that are exchanged.
In an interview with the Guardian, Sebastian Elliot, owner of www.skillbound.com says this of skill swapping “Many more small businesses continue to discover the benefits of skills swapping and the web makes it easier to find the skills they want, there’s still a lack of awareness about skills swapping, but that’s been changing for a while now. Some people might not feel comfortable about it, while others don’t consider there’s any other option other than paying with money, but swapping skills offers many benefits”
Late last year, a post on how to save money by swapping skills was published on line by www.money.co.uk. Definitely skill swapping sites and apps are here to stay as its easier to find the skills you want. With the right kind of advertisement, Skillted may be leading the way for mobile based swapping services.
