Key Partners
We have identified two potential sets of organizations as our key partners who would help leverage our business model. Location Based Services (LBS) providers like Google and FourSquare are one of our key partners followed by Web Based Training (WBT) companies like SkillSoft, Lynda, TeamTreeHouse etc.
Key Resources
Our key resources are existing technologies that makes us who we are and also makes our dream come to reality. With the services we are proposing, we require three technologies which are categorized into three Cloud Servers and Storage, LBS and Security.
- Cloud Servers and Storage: This is where our Skillted would be hosted and where user information would be stored providing access to users from any part of the world. E.g Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- LBS: This is an important resource that that enable us determine the location of a user and also enable us calculate the distance between two or more users. In this case we would be use Google Latitude and Google Maps API.
- Security: In terms of security, while AWS offers minimal security we would also take advantage firewall technologies and Secure Socket Later (SSL) to ensure that data transmitted are encrypted by purchasing a SSL certificates.
Key Activities
Just like most things, growth and success are attained by persistence. With this in mind, our aim is focus on issues that would keep us improving and increasing our value to customer by providing a platform for which people can meet and exchanging skills. This means we need to continue development ensuring as follows:
- Improving search and matching algorithm
- Ensure compatibility across all mobile platform regardless of updates.
- Regular updates and bug fixes
Above all we need to be good at one thing, and that is connecting people with the right skills and within the right location. Which means we need to continuous find ways to improve our algorithm.
Cost Structure
There are two main drivers for cost which are servers and software developers.
- Software developers: The total cost for developers depends on the amount employed. For a start, it would be difficult to support all platforms since we need specialist for each platform hence it is difficult to give actual price.
- Servers: The cost of servers are inconsistent especially cloud based ones. Because it is scalable, the prices change based on usage and more specifically bandwidth cost and storage. However, more conventional hosting services may charge around £20 to £50 monthly for a Virtual Private Server (VPS) which has some limitation and requires extra resources and employee to manage them, we are considering AWS for the obvious reasons like security and long term cost.
