Harry&#8217;s talk is titled: <b>A sociocultural imagination: studying the formative effects of \u2018everydayness\u2019. <\/b>If you are not a member of the centre but would like more information about the seminar please contact Sarah Parsons: <a href=\"mailto:s.j.parsons@soton.ac.uk\">s.j.parsons@soton.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0<strong>May 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Sarah Parsons will be giving a keynote talk and a workshop at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecolint.ch\/learning-ecolint\/special-educational-needs\">SEN conference at the International School in Geneva<\/a> on 3rd May. Sarah&#8217;s talk will discuss the evidence base for educational technologies for autism, and the workshop will help delegates to think about how to embed research and technology in projects in schools.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Sarah is also giving an invited keynote on Virtual Reality for the education of children with autism\u00a0at the <i>33<sup>rd<\/sup> Symposium of the Association for French language Scientific Psychology<\/i>, Rouen 26-28 May 2014.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">With Gina Sherwood, Sarah will be giving an invited talk at Canterbury Christ Church University on May 14th. This talk\u00a0is titled: &#8216;<b>Informed consent with children and young people in social research: visibility, vulnerability and innovation&#8217;<\/b> and draws on recent research findings from a collaborative project with Kings College London and the University of Oxford.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>November 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ioe.ac.uk\/staff\/phdt\/27039.html\">Dr Liz Pellicano<\/a> from the Centre for Research in Autism and\u00a0Education (CRAE), Institute of Education, University of London is giving a research seminar in the School on Monday 4<sup>th<\/sup> November 2013, from 12:15-13:15 in building 32, room 2097. Liz\u2019s talk is titled: \u2018A Future Made Together: New directions for autism research\u2019 and focuses on her <a href=\"http:\/\/newsletters.ioe.ac.uk\/A_Future_Made_Together_2013.pdf\">recent work<\/a> exploring (1) whether the pattern of current UK autism research maps on to the priorities of the broader autism community and (2) the nature and degree of involvement of community members in the research process.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>October 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sarah Parsons is presenting at the Arapi Autumn University in Le Croisic, France on October 4th about her research on collaborative virtual environments for children with autism.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>September 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kiki Messiou, Kalwant Bhopal and Mel Nind are all presenting at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bera.ac.uk\/events\/bera-conference-2013\">BERA conference at the University of Sussex<\/a>, from 3-5th September.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>August\u00a02013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>David Galbraith will be presenting at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earli2013.org\/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=1\">EARLI conference <\/a>in Munich on his research into writing processes,<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>July 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Kiki Messiou is giving an invited keynote at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inclusionconference2013.org\/pages\/professional-development-conference\/invited-speakers.php\">&#8216;Making education inclusive&#8217; conference in South Africa<\/a>, which is being held from 1st-6th July in Johannesburg.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Parsons will be in London on July 4th for the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mahealthcareevents.co.uk\/cgi-bin\/go.pl\/conferences\/detail.html?conference_uid=368\"> MA Healthcare\u00a0Autism Today <\/a>conference,\u00a0giving an invited presentation\u00a0about &#8216;Assistive technologies: supporting social and communication skills&#8217;. Sarah will then be in Monaco on July 5th for an invited presentation to MONAA &#8211; an autism resesarch organisation, where she will attend the scientific committee meeting and talk about her work on virtual reality for supporting social communication.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>June 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>June 13th sees the first SJIE conference for the seconday PGCE students. Running from 09:30-13:30 the conference will feature talks by Sarah Parsons and Kiki Messiou, along with a short discussion by Mel Nind, and\u00a0poster presentations from current SJIE doctoral students. Kalwant Bhopal will also be there to let students know about our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/education\/postgraduate\/research_degrees.page\">doctoral programmes<\/a> in Education.<\/p>\n<p>Mel Nind will be at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wiserd.ac.uk\/training-events\/event\/wiserd-2013-conference\/\">WISERD conference <\/a>on 25th \u00a0June\u00a0at the\u00a0University of South Wales, presenting a paper entitled \u2018Is changing who leads research a methodological innovation?\u2019. This is\u00a0part of\u00a0the NCRM-hosted Innovation in Research Methods strand.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>May 22nd 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr Kalwant Bhopal and\u00a0June Jackson will\u00a0report on their research focusing on BME academics at a lunchtime research seminar in bldg 32, room 2097 on the Highfield campus.
