{"id":6664,"date":"2017-10-16T21:28:07","date_gmt":"2017-10-16T21:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/serg\/?p=6664"},"modified":"2017-10-17T10:19:33","modified_gmt":"2017-10-17T10:19:33","slug":"energy-and-the-city-roadshow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/serg\/energy-and-the-city-roadshow\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy and the City RoadShow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.energy.soton.ac.uk\">Sustainable Energy Research Group<\/a> is hosting a roadshow on 9th November 2017.<\/p>\n<h2>BACKGROUND<\/h2>\n<p>\u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/liveablecities.org.uk\/\">Liveable Cities<\/a>\u2019 is an umbrella name for a series of interlinked research projects addressing these questions, carried out by the Universities of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.energy.soton.ac.uk\/\">Southampton<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/\">UCL<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/\">Lancaster<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birmingham.ac.uk\/index.aspx\">Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.energy.soton.ac.uk\/liveable-cities\/\">Liveable Cities<\/a> is hosting a series of three roadshows, one in each of its case study cities: Southampton, Lancaster, and Birmingham. The purpose of the roadshows is to showcase the outcomes of the research and its relevance within each city. This event relates to Southampton&#8217;s RoadShow addressing Energy and the City.<\/p>\n<h2>WHO SHOULD ATTEND?<\/h2>\n<p>This event is aimed at those involved with urban energy and housing services, city planning, electrical power generation and distribution and also organisations concerned with addressing fuel poverty and promoting energy efficiency.<\/p>\n<h2>PROGRAMME<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>10.00 \u2013 10.45<\/strong>: How much energy can we save from domestic retrofit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">A set of Geographic Information System (GIS) tools based on simplified building energy models have been developed and applied to every domestic building Southampton, and used to explore different levels of energy saving intervention.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>11.00 \u2013 11.45<\/strong>: Thermal comfort, energy saving and rebound in social housing retrofit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Results of several studies in Southampton and Portsmouth including refurbished tower blocks, district heating schemes and boiler replacement for houses.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>12.00 \u2013 12.30<\/strong>: How much electrical power can we generate from rooftop solar panels?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">A GIS-based tool has been developed to assess rooftop solar PV potential and applied to Southampton. This tool will be demonstrated in the session.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>12.30 \u2013 13.30:<\/strong>&nbsp;Lunch and exhibition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">During the buffet lunch, a series of displays will illustrate the results of research projects carried out as part of Liveable Cities in Southampton. Researchers will be on hand to informally answer questions and discuss the results.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>13.30 \u2013 14.15<\/strong>: A longitudinal field study of energy and wellbeing in private housing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Results of a 2+ year field study involving over 200 households in Southampton covering transport and home energy use along with monitoring of CO2 and other parameters<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>14.30 \u2013 15.15<\/strong>: Rezoning the industrial waterfont<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">A historical legacy of waterfront industrial zones provides jobs but prevents access to Southampton\u2019s riverscape, both physically and visually. How can the rezoning of these areas address the challenges of Southampton as a whole?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>15.30 \u2013 16.00<\/strong>: Discussion and feedback<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Wrap-up session with a chance to have your say on the issues discussed during the day.
