His research project in energy storage for solar photovoltaic systems has contributed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/546c7cfbe4b021f0d78dc315\/t\/55f6e6d3e4b04a24f175cadf\/1442244307114\/reap_systems_pv_magazine_2012.pdf\">collaboration between the university and local industry<\/a>, and demonstrated the feasibility of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/news\/2012\/02\/efficient-solar-energy.page\">using a new type of batteries for storing electricity from solar systems<\/a>. He was awarded PhD in <em>Low Carbon City Assessment<\/em> from the same department in 2016. His PhD research has contributed to a number of research programmes including the <a href=\"http:\/\/liveablecities.org.uk\/\">Liveable Cities project<\/a> and the research outcomes are used by UK cities such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.gov.uk\/environmental-issues\/energy\/\">Southampton City Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/serg\/files\/2016\/06\/3JB6793.jpg\" alt=\"MSc project: Testing a new type of battery (LiFePO4) for the use in solar PV systems\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>\n<small>MSc project: Testing a new type of battery (LiFePO4) for the use in solar PV systems<\/small><\/p>\n<p>Phil is currently continuing his post-doctoral research in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.energy.soton.ac.uk\/liveable-cities\/\">Liveable Cities project<\/a>, which is a 5-year research programme jointly supported by 4 UK leading universities &#8211; Universities of Southampton, Birmingham, UCL, and Lancaster. His research topic is to investigate the possibility and impacts of reducing carbon dioxide emissions within a city. His research outcomes have been presented to Southampton City Council, influencing the policy making process of the city.
