{"id":5688,"date":"2015-02-25T10:00:15","date_gmt":"2015-02-25T10:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/serg\/?p=5688"},"modified":"2016-03-09T11:37:01","modified_gmt":"2016-03-09T11:37:01","slug":"save-project-report-on-energy-efficiency-and-behaviour-change-published","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/serg\/save-project-report-on-energy-efficiency-and-behaviour-change-published\/","title":{"rendered":"SAVE project report on &#8216;Energy Efficiency and Behaviour Change&#8217; published"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SAVE project&#8217;s review of evidence on\u00a0&#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.smarternetworks.org\/Files\/Solent_Achieving_Value_from_Efficiency_(SAVE)_150225121853.pdf\">Energy Efficiency and Behaviour Change<\/a>&#8216; which has just been published shows that whilst the\u00a0great variety of previous trial\u00a0approaches and contexts often makes it difficult to compare results, common insights have\u00a0emerged.\u00a0These include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Customers\u00a0cannot be engaged as one group &#8211; the way\u00a0in which different people react to attempts to change their energy behaviour differs and engagement\u00a0needs to be tailored appropriately without resulting in prohibitive costs;<\/li>\n<li>Financial incentives can be effective but potentially need to be relatively large and impacts are\u00a0often not sustainable over time;<\/li>\n<li>Normative comparisons between households have been shown to be very successful when based\u00a0on intelligent like-for-like comparisons;<\/li>\n<li>Energy efficiency results need to be analysed within the context of wider factors such as the\u00a0economic and regional context;<\/li>\n<li>Many trials have found a core group or customer segment whose\u00a0behaviour is very difficult to change. Successful ways of engaging with this segment, which tends to be\u00a0the largest single group, would add significantly to the knowledge base in this area.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Overall\u00a0the projects\u00a0reviewed repeatedly demonstrated that customers need more than one reason to engage and\u00a0change behaviour.
