Abstract<\/em>:<\/p>\n

Consumer data collected by commercial organisations in the retail, utilities, financial services and telecoms sectors offers considerable potential for generating timely and novel population statistics and social indicators. In an era where traditional Census taking is being re-considered, commercial data may offer robust alternative sources of census-like indicators, whilst innovative analytic techniques applied to commercial geo- coded datasets may afford novel social indicators at the household or individual level. This session, organised by the ESRC funded Census 2022: Transforming Small Area Socio-Economic Indicators Through \u2018Big Data\u2019 project<\/a> (#Census2022) provides an opportunity to share and discuss research, academic, policy-driven or commercial, which addresses the role of commercial data in a post (traditional) census era.<\/p>\n
