{"id":677,"date":"2015-10-01T08:00:52","date_gmt":"2015-10-01T08:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sa\/?p=677"},"modified":"2015-12-16T11:17:18","modified_gmt":"2015-12-16T11:17:18","slug":"the-social-innovation-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sa\/2015\/10\/01\/the-social-innovation-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"The Social Innovation Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Guest blog by Josie Francis, Programme Manager for the Social Impact Lab<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Do you have an idea for a project to improve liveability and sustainability at the University of Southampton?<\/p>\n<p>Would you like to represent the University of Southampton at the Social Innovation Summit in Toronto, Canada?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sa\/files\/2015\/09\/smoothie-bike.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-678 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sa\/files\/2015\/09\/smoothie-bike-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"smoothie bike\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sa\/files\/2015\/09\/smoothie-bike-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sa\/files\/2015\/09\/smoothie-bike.jpg 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>On Wednesday <strong>4th November<\/strong>, the Social Impact Lab, in partnership with Waitrose, is hosting the Social Innovation Challenge &#8211; a\u00a0one day competition to find the best social and environmental ideas for improving student life at the University of Southampton.<\/p>\n<p>As well as workshops on design thinking, prototyping and social business model canvassing, students will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to an expert panel for a chance to win seed-funding and a place at the Social Innovation Summit in Toronto, Canada, from <strong>26<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 30<sup>th<\/sup> January 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The challenge is open to students from any subject area and year of study.\u00a0 Students can register as individuals or in teams of up to four people.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to participate in the Social Innovation Challenge, please send your name, course and year of study, and a brief description of your proposed social or environmental project to <a href=\"mailto:j.e.francis@soton.ac.uk\">j.e.francis@soton.ac.uk<\/a>.\u00a0 Projects can involve any aspect of student life \u2013 from healthier food on campus or student landlords, to greener transport and recycling schemes.\u00a0 Don\u2019t worry if you only have a rough idea at this stage \u2013 it\u2019s all you need to be considered for a place on the challenge!<\/p>\n<p>More details about the Challenge are available on our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/silab\/experience\/campus.page\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is open from <strong>1<sup>st<\/sup> October<\/strong> until <strong>20<sup>th<\/sup> October 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guest blog by Josie Francis, Programme Manager for the Social Impact Lab Do you have an idea for a project to improve liveability and sustainability at the University of Southampton?
