At Southampton, we bring our students and staff together to deliver ground-breaking and award winning sustainability initiatives. Here\u2019s seven ways you can play your part, starting today:<\/p>\n

  1. Switch off<\/strong> \u2013 remember to switch off computers\u00a0and lights when you\u2019re not using them. Our annual Blackout<\/a> event \u2013 run by more than 250 volunteers \u2013 highlights the positive impact that our collective small actions can have every day.<\/li>\n
  2. Recycle<\/strong> \u2013 we operate a two bin system in halls and on campus, which helped us recycle a whopping 70% of our waste last year. That\u2019s one bin for food and another bin for everything else (except pesky things like glass bottles and batteries \u2013 more about those here<\/a>).<\/li>\n
  3. Travel sustainably \u2013 <\/strong>use unilink<\/a> buses, walk or cycle<\/a> to get around the city and the surrounding areas. We host regular bike check and repair events<\/a> on campus.<\/li>\n
  4. Live local<\/strong> \u2013 if you\u2019ve just moved into halls, look out for the Live Local map<\/a> in your kitchen. It helps you find the best local ethical cafes, restaurants and shop as well as cultural highlights in Southampton and Winchester.<\/li>\n
  5. Take time out <\/strong>\u2013 your wellbeing is important. Discover the green spaces in and around campus such as\u00a0Valley Gardens<\/a>,\u00a0Southampton Common<\/a> or Winnall Moors<\/a>\u00a0on campus when you need to take a break from your studies.<\/li>\n
  6. Volunteer<\/strong> \u2013 we run events\u00a0such as Blackout and Waste Wars throughout the year. Find us on Facebook<\/a> or email<\/a> to get involved.<\/li>\n
  7. \u00a0Give us your ideas<\/strong> \u2013 share your\u00a0ideas that will reduce the University\u2019s carbon emissions and improve the sustainability of our campuses. Send us your ideas<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
