We provide innovative and original ways for students to get involved in invaluable developments which address both our environmental impacts and social responsibilities. Each year hundreds of Southampton students lead the way in making the university more sustainable through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-247\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sa\/files\/2014\/07\/blackout-pizzas-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"Hundreds of pizzas!\" width=\"240\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sa\/files\/2014\/07\/blackout-pizzas-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/sa\/files\/2014\/07\/blackout-pizzas.jpg 375w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>\u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/sustainabilityaction\/experience\/blackout.page?\" target=\"_blank\">Southampton Blackout:<\/a> a night out with lights out\u2019 \u2013 hundreds of students and staff switch off every piece of office equipment left on unnecessarily for the weekend on just one night! This saves the university money, reduces our carbon emissions and shows students and staff the impact of small actions (plus everyone volunteering gets a coveted Blackout hoodie and a share of over 100 Dominoes pizzas!)<\/li>\n<li>\u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/sustainabilityaction\/experience\/swapshop.page?\" target=\"_blank\">Swap Shop<\/a>\u2019 \u2013 twice a year students and staff get rid of their unwanted clothes and find free gems in our clothes swaps. Everyone enjoys new clothes, clears their wardrobe and all leftover items are donated to British Heart Foundation to sell!<\/li>\n<li>\u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/sustainabilityaction\/experience\/bees.page?\" target=\"_blank\">Business Ethics and Environment Students<\/a>\u2019 &#8211; \u00a0join other students in helping local business become better employers and have a positive impact on the environment and society (great for your CV!) <i><br \/>\n<\/i><\/li>\n<li>\u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/sustainabilityaction\/experience\/waste_wars.page?\" target=\"_blank\">Waste Wars<\/a>\u2019 \u2013 be part of an academically recognised event where staff and students work together to survey the universities waste. Along with heightening your awareness of recycling at Southampton, you will also receive a t-shirt, chocolate bar and food voucher \u2013 bonus!<\/li>\n<li>Join one of the many student societies having a positive impact on university and society, such <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southamptonhub.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Southampton Hub<\/a> (connecting students with social action), <a href=\"http:\/\/enactussouthampton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Enactus <\/a>(our social enterprise society)&#8230; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.susu.org\/something-for-everyone\/2012\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">many more<\/a>!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This provides only a glimpse of the exciting and unique events you can get involved in at Southampton.
