



{"id":1521,"date":"2014-07-10T19:29:58","date_gmt":"2014-07-10T19:29:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/robotics\/?p=1521"},"modified":"2014-08-12T16:05:09","modified_gmt":"2014-08-12T16:05:09","slug":"darpa-upward-falling-payloads-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/robotics\/2014\/07\/10\/darpa-upward-falling-payloads-program\/","title":{"rendered":"DARPA Upward Falling Payloads program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Inspired by the <a title=\"DARPA UFP Call\" href=\"http:\/\/www.darpa.mil\/NewsEvents\/Releases\/2013\/01\/11.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">recent DARPA call<\/a>, two teams of <a title=\"MSc UVSD\" href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/engineering\/postgraduate\/taught_courses\/engineering\/msc_unmanned_vehicle_systems_design_air_vehicle.page\" target=\"_blank\">MSc Unmanned Vehicle Systems Design <\/a>(UVSD)\u00a0Students at the University of Southampton have been developing systems that could be deployed for up to six months in the littoral zones of the world at depths of up to 50 m. Inside the pods are Quadrotor UAVs which can carry various sensor payloads and can perform automated surveys of their target areas.<\/p>\n<p>Recent tests have been conducted in the Royal Navy Submarine Escape Training Tower (SETT) facility in Gosport.
