{"id":309,"date":"2013-10-25T14:39:54","date_gmt":"2013-10-25T13:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mase\/?p=309"},"modified":"2013-10-25T15:02:40","modified_gmt":"2013-10-25T14:02:40","slug":"primary-science-enquiry-at-the-mary-rose-trust-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mshe\/primary-science-enquiry-at-the-mary-rose-trust-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Primary Science Enquiry at the Mary Rose Trust (Project)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How can primary teachers embed inquiry skills in science and across the curriculum during this time of curriculum change?<\/p>\n<p>Primary teachers from Southampton are \u00a0involved in the <a title=\"Primary Science Teaching Trust\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pstt.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Primary Science Teaching Trust<\/a>\u00a0project <em>Developing Inquiry Skills across the Curriculum: a Project with the Mary Rose Trust <\/em>through the <a title=\"MSLC, Southampton\" href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/education\/cpd\/index.page?\" target=\"_blank\">Mathematics and Science Learning Centre<\/a>, Southampton Education School<em>. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Teachers spent a day at the Trust on Wednesday 23rd October, developing resources and approaches for inquiry.\u00a0 Teachers had previously visited researchers at University of Southampton to find out how they use inquiry skills in their daily work linked to aspects of the conservation of the Mary Rose. On Wednesday, the researchers worked alongside the teachers at the <a title=\"Mary Rose Trust\" href=\"http:\/\/www.maryrose.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">new museum facility <\/a>to plan innovative inquiry approaches using the resources and work of the Trust.<\/p>\n<p>During the next term and a half, teachers will work in schools to further develop the resources and evaluate the efficacy of the approach with pupils; action research methods will be used in the classroom to achieve this.<\/p>\n<p>This project follows on from our successful projects with the (then) AstraZeneca Science teaching Trust &#8211; <a title=\"Bringing Oceanography Inland\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pstt.org.uk\/funding-and-projects\/projects\/bringing-oceanography-inland-a-project-using-oceanographic-science-to-teach-content-and-skills-at-key-stage-3.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Bringing Oceanography Inland<\/a>\u00a0with the <a title=\"NOC\" href=\"http:\/\/noc.ac.uk\/southampton\" target=\"_blank\">National Oceanography Centre <\/a>and <a title=\"LifeLab\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pstt.org.uk\/funding-and-projects\/projects\/lifelab-translational-research-taking-contemporary-science-to-students.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">LifeLab &#8211; translational research<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How can primary teachers embed inquiry skills in science and across the curriculum during this time of curriculum change?
