The project is funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.<\/p>\n<p>Following the work of mathematics philosopher Lakatos, this study uses the term <em>proofs and refutations<\/em> to refer to mathematical activity depicted in the figure.<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mshe\/files\/2016\/07\/ProofsRefutations.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1071\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mshe\/files\/2016\/07\/ProofsRefutations-300x165.jpg\" alt=\"ProofsRefutations\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mshe\/files\/2016\/07\/ProofsRefutations-300x165.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mshe\/files\/2016\/07\/ProofsRefutations-768x423.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mshe\/files\/2016\/07\/ProofsRefutations.jpg 935w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> The process of proofs and refutations is essential in school mathematics because it can provide students with an opportunity to engage in authentic mathematical activity that represents how mathematical knowledge dynamically develops in the discipline. Nevertheless, there is still much to learn about how the activity can be facilitated in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>To address the research gap, our PRinDGE research project focuses on task design for fostering student activity of proofs and refutations with dynamic geometry software.
