That\u2019s all changing with a new editor that\u2019s built right into the normal viewing window.<\/p>\n<h2>When?<\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019ll be introducing this feature on <strong>Wednesday August 17<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong> in the morning. Panopto will be unavailable for around 15 minutes during the morning.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>So what\u2019s different \/ new?<\/h2>\n<h3>Loading the editor<\/h3>\n<p>The editor can still be loaded from Blackboard &gt; Recorded Sessions or via the Panopto admin website. However the easiest way is to view the video you wish to edit and click on the new pencil icon in the top right corner\u2026<\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1565\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mle\/files\/2016\/08\/Panopto-5.2-Load-editor.gif\" alt=\"Load the editor from the pencil in the top right corner of the viewer page\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/h3>\n<p>\u2026 this will load the editor within the same window.<\/p>\n<h3>Editing interface<\/h3>\n<p>The new editor looks exactly the same as the viewer, but with a slightly expanded timeline<\/p>\n<p>There are three main buttons on the editing interface<\/p>\n<h4>Selection<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1566\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mle\/files\/2016\/08\/editingcontrols-1-52.png\" alt=\"Arrow (selected), scissors, list\" width=\"93\" height=\"29\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first, a selection arrow, allows to jump to a certain area of the recording. You can\u2019t make any edits with this selected, it\u2019s used to help you find an area of the video.<\/p>\n<h4>Edit<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1567\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mle\/files\/2016\/08\/editingcontrols-2-52.png\" alt=\"Arrow, scissors (selected), list\" width=\"90\" height=\"31\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The scissor icon is the main editing interface. Clicking on the scissors brings up the \u201cnormal\u201d editing interface, showing tabs that you can pull to trim the video\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1569\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mle\/files\/2016\/08\/Panopto-5.2-Trim.gif\" alt=\"Animated: Click on scissors, grab tab that appears, drag, put back, loops.\" width=\"640\" height=\"304\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026 and similar to the old editor you can click and drag with the scissors over the primary video to edit out a section from the middle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1570\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mle\/files\/2016\/08\/Panopto-5.2-Cut.gif\" alt=\"Animated. Clicks on scissors then drags along timeline to create a greyed out area. Tabs are grabbed and moved to change where the grey area is.\" width=\"640\" height=\"304\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Events<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1568\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/mle\/files\/2016\/08\/editingcontrols-3-52.png\" alt=\"Arrow, scissors, list (selected)\" width=\"93\" height=\"32\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The final button allows you to add events to the contents by clicking on the timeline<\/p>\n<h3>Undo buttons<\/h3>\n<p>Made a mistake? In the previous version of the editor if you made a mistake you could only revert to the original version of the recording, but now you can undo and redo every step made since saving. Southampton has had personal practice folders for some time.
