From Limits to Growth to Planetary Boundaries: Defining the safe and just space for humanity<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Workshop 23-25 March 2015,\u00a0New Forest UK<\/p>\n

Planetary boundaries mark precautionary limits for the human perturbation of critical environmental\u00a0processes. Applying the planetary boundaries concept demands much deeper conceptual, analytic and\u00a0practical integration of societal and environmental dynamics. A notable attempt as such an integration\u00a0was the World3 model of Meadow\u2019s et al, the results of which were published in the controversial\u00a0monograph Limits to Growth. This workshop will focus on operational aspects of co-evolutionary\u00a0modelling: applying models in\/for the real world, addressing contemporary human drivers of coevolutionary\u00a0change, and the characterisation and quantification of planetary boundaries and their\u00a0interactions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goals<\/h2>\n
    \n
  • Stimulate collaboration on research of human\u00a0societies and co-evolutionary dynamics in the\u00a0Earth system<\/li>\n
  • Strengthen the emerging transdisciplinary network\u00a0of co-evolutionary modelling researchers<\/li>\n
  • Advance the strategic agenda for innovative,\u00a0integrative ‘Whole Earth System\u2019 modelling.<\/li>\n
  • Plan joint article on the Safe and Just Operating\u00a0Space for Humanity<\/li>\n
