As I mentioned in my last post, we need to change the way that we manage our lists of resources on LibGuides – and having spent some time thinking about this, I’m ready to share our four key proposals with everyone:
1. All Resources Will Be Managed Centrally
Periodicals will maintain a central list of all the resources we link to in our subject guides – if we want to add or change resources on our own lists, we’ll need those changes to be made centrally. There will be an easy-to-use form that you will use to request changes. Periodicals will email you as soon as the change has been made.
2. We Will Retain an A-Z List of Core Resources
The A-Z list of resource will remain – however it will feature just our paid-for resources and key freely available multi-subject resources.
3. Resources Will Not be Duplicated
Each resource will have one entry in the list, in whichever form of the title is deemed most appropriate – there will not be separate entries for the full and abbreviated titles. Furthermore, on and off-campus links will be combined into the one entry.
4. Icons Will Provide Off-Campus, Password and Tutorial Links
The title of a resource will form a link to it – if there are separate on and off campus links, the title will use the on-campus link. Any off-campus link, information about specific passwords, and links to tutorials will be provided by additional icons next to the title.
Furthermore, we will not prompt users if all that is required is their University login – we will only prompt them if a different kind of password is required.
