Introduction to LibGuides

We all need guidance at times

LibGuides is a service used by huge numbers of libraries (including many in the UK) to host their user support information. If you’ve looked at a few academic library websites over the past few years, you cannot help but have seen links to LibGuides.

They can be used to supplement a library’s website, or even host the bulk of the information. In fact, there’s even a CMS option so that LibGuides effectively becomes the library’s website.

Our initial plan is to look at hosting our user support information on the service – but the Library’s website will remain (though changed significantly).

At the time of writing, we don’t have the trial up and running yet – so nothing I write is set in stone. We don’t even know yet whether the service will work for us or not. However, keeping a positive outlook, at the very least we’d like to get our subject support & information skills content across to LibGuides in time for the new (2013-14) academic year. If we could get our research support, library services and resources information across as well, then that would be brilliant.

Ric.
