In Humanities, there is now a committee dedicated to promoting the public impact of our work and in ML there is clearly a lot of potential in all aspects of what we do. For many of us, however, the notion of \u2018impact\u2019 is still rather vague: it may not be clear what \u2018counts\u2019 as impact or how we can generate it through our work.<\/p>\n<p>Since public impact will be an increasingly important feature of our working lives in the future, we are organising an open information and discussion workshop on Wednesday 27 January from 5 \u2013 6.30 in Avenue 1177. It will be led by Steve Dorney of the University\u2019s Public Engagement with Research Unit (PERU) but I want to emphasise that the workshop will be relevant to all ML staff.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will be in two parts. The first part will aim to clarify what is meant by impact and give everyone the opportunity to ask questions about how it can be relevant to their particular areas of expertise.
