Intern Update- The end of the placement!

Hello from Caitlin!

It’s with great sadness that I write my final blog post as an intern with LLAS and the Intercultural Connections Project! I’ve had such a great summer with Ali, Nancy and all the LLAS team working on WOW Festival and I really hope that staff, students and Southampton locals alike will really enjoy the day when the event goes ahead on 6th February next year.

Over my time with LLAS I’ve had the opportunity to use a creative head to come up with over 30 different activities that will be put on at WOW Festival, employ some research tactics to ensure we were getting as many people involved in WOW as possible and communicate with other people as passionate about internationalisation as we at ICS are.

It’s been such a pleasure to work with such a dynamic, creative and motivated team and being in an office with such a high ratio of chocolate/biscuits/cakes to people didn’t hurt either!

Unfortunately the sweet stash shan’t be safe for long however as hopefully I’ll be popping back into the office a few times in the run-up to the Festival to help out where I can.

Stay tuned for more updates from Nancy!

WOW International Recipe Swap

Are you a keen cook? Fancy yourself as a bit of a foodie? Relish trying new recipes?

Then we want to hear from you!

Here at ICS, we’re keen to get people engaging in intercultural exchange in as many ways as possible, and recently we’ve been thinking about how we can make some culinary connections!

At WOW Festival in February, we’re planning to hold an International Recipe Swap, and so would love to hear some of your favourite recipes so we can distribute them on the day, and attendees can swap their favourite recipes for yours!

If you’d like to contribute your recipe to the swap, then please fill in this form. We can’t wait to read your recipes!

Intern Update- The Penultimate Week!

Hello from Caitlin!

In this penultimate week of my placement with LLAS, I’ve been by myself in the office as Nancy has been at a conference since Monday and  I’ve really missed having someone to bounce ideas off of and collaborate with in this final stage of my internship. Nancy has been such a pleasure to work with these past 11 weeks, and really I couldn’t have asked for a more positive and cheerful workmate than her! But luckily, Nancy will be back on Monday when our first task will be reporting all our progress to the LLAS staff in our final team meeting.

This week I’ve been trying to set as many arrangements in stone as possible before my time on the ICS project comes to a close, and have tried to set up a good logistical framework for Nancy and Ali to continue with once I leave. So there’s been lots emailing, budgeting and risk assessing going on!

This week we also finalised our design for our flyers to be handed out at the Freshers’ Bunfight, and we’d really like to thank Kitty and Stu from the Print Centre for being so enthusiastic about our work and giving us that extra bit of positivity to keep moving forward with!

I’m sad to be going into my final week with LLAS, but so glad to have been part of such a welcoming team- my first taste of the world of work really has been brilliant!

Be sure to catch up with us again next week!
