Intern Update- The Penultimate Week!

Hello from Caitlin!

In this penultimate week of my placement with LLAS, I’ve been by myself in the office as Nancy has been at a conference since Monday and  I’ve really missed having someone to bounce ideas off of and collaborate with in this final stage of my internship. Nancy has been such a pleasure to work with these past 11 weeks, and really I couldn’t have asked for a more positive and cheerful workmate than her! But luckily, Nancy will be back on Monday when our first task will be reporting all our progress to the LLAS staff in our final team meeting.

This week I’ve been trying to set as many arrangements in stone as possible before my time on the ICS project comes to a close, and have tried to set up a good logistical framework for Nancy and Ali to continue with once I leave. So there’s been lots emailing, budgeting and risk assessing going on!

This week we also finalised our design for our flyers to be handed out at the Freshers’ Bunfight, and we’d really like to thank Kitty and Stu from the Print Centre for being so enthusiastic about our work and giving us that extra bit of positivity to keep moving forward with!

I’m sad to be going into my final week with LLAS, but so glad to have been part of such a welcoming team- my first taste of the world of work really has been brilliant!

Be sure to catch up with us again next week!

Intern Update- Double Figures!

Hi again from the ICS interns Caitlin and Nancy!

Time is really flying on our placement with LLAS, we can’t believe we’ve hit double figures of blog posts so quickly!

This week we’ve been making lots of progress with our marketing materials, and have come up with a concept that we really hope you’ll like. We should be handing out our first round of publicity material at the Freshers’ Bunfight later this month so look out for us there!

This week we’ve also kept liaising with numerous university departments, and we’re really happy to have the Confucius Institute on board with WOW Festival. They’ll be providing various exciting activities relating to Chinese culture on the day of the Festival, so make sure that you’re around for those.

We’re also very excited to announce that, after much deliberation, we have a confirmed date for WOW Festival! Our day of intercultural exchange will take place on 6th February 2016 on Highfield Campus, University of Southampton.

As usual, we’ll continue to blog on the ICS website before 6th February so you can keep updated with all things WOW.

Until next Friday!

Intern Update- Culinary Contributions!

Hi again from Nancy and Caitlin!

This week we were so glad to welcome back our supervisor for the Intercultural Connections Project, Alison, and we had three weeks’ worth of work to update her on when she returned, along with all our questions, queries and qualms about WOW Festival. We’re really happy to have Alison back with us for the final three weeks of our placement here at LLAS and hope we can make some real progress in this final push!

This week we’ve been thinking about culinary contributions to WOW Festival. As you know, here on the WOW Festival Team we’re keen to get the people of Southampton engaging in intercultural exchange in as many ways as possible. In many cultures, food brings together family and friends and so we’d love to get some recipe contributions from across the globe so people can start connecting with new cultures through new cuisine!

In February, we’re hoping to hold an International Recipe Swap, and so, to facilitate this, we’d like to collect as many recipes as possible before the festival date so we can distribute these on the day, people can contribute their own favourite recipes and swap them for some new ones to take home! We think this will expand gastronomic horizons and facilitate intercultural exchange through people’s favourite food!

If you’d like to contribute a recipe then please click this link to fill in this form.
