{"id":836,"date":"2014-03-14T14:22:39","date_gmt":"2014-03-14T14:22:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/ggblog\/?p=836"},"modified":"2014-03-14T14:22:39","modified_gmt":"2014-03-14T14:22:39","slug":"ocean-sciences-2014-hawaii-benthic-pelagic-coupling-and-exchange","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/ggblog\/2014\/03\/ocean-sciences-2014-hawaii-benthic-pelagic-coupling-and-exchange\/","title":{"rendered":"Ocean Sciences, 2014, Hawaii: Benthic-pelagic coupling and exchange."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At this years <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sgmeet.com\/osm2014\/default.asp\">Ocean Sciences<\/a> Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii (23-28<sup>th<\/sup> February), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/oes\/about\/staff\/celt2.page\">Dr Charlie Thompson,<\/a> Research Fellow in G&amp;G, was co-convener of a session on \u2018 Benthic-pelagic coupling and exchange across the sediment-water interface&#8217;, alongside\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.port.ac.uk\/school-of-earth-and-environmental-sciences\/staff\/fay-couceiro.html\">Dr Fay Couceiro <\/a>(University of Portsmouth), \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eos.unh.edu\/Faculty\/Kalnejais\">Dr. Linda Kalnejais<\/a> (University of New Hampshire) and <a href=\"http:\/\/marine.unc.edu\/department\/mascnews\/kai-ziervogel-in-ri-at-the-unols-chief-scientist-training-workshop\/\">Dr. Kai Ziervogal<\/a> (University of North Carolina). The session featured seven oral presentations and 21 poster presentations covering a wide range of aspects of the fluxes between the sediment and water column.<\/p>\n<p>This was a process-based session, with topics covering biogeochemistry and physical resuspension processes at a range of scales. Work carried out in coastal, shelf and lacustrine environments was included, and utilised observational, experimental and modeling studies. The vast variety of topics made both oral and poster sessions particularly interesting, and they were both well attended.
