{"id":524,"date":"2014-01-21T16:08:23","date_gmt":"2014-01-21T16:08:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/ggblog\/?p=524"},"modified":"2014-01-22T13:36:38","modified_gmt":"2014-01-22T13:36:38","slug":"gsnocs-part-of-nerc-funded-centre-for-doctoral-training-in-oil-gas-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/ggblog\/2014\/01\/gsnocs-part-of-nerc-funded-centre-for-doctoral-training-in-oil-gas-research\/","title":{"rendered":"GSNOCS part of NERC funded Centre for Doctoral Training in Oil &amp; Gas Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we can announce the Graduate School of the National Oceanography Centre Southampton&#8217;s (<a href=\"http:\/\/noc.ac.uk\/gsnocs\" target=\"_blank\">GSNOCS<\/a>) participation in a new, NERC co-funded \u00a38 million Centre for Doctoral Training in geological and environmental research relevant to the oil and gas sector (see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/oes\/news\/2014\/1\/new_8_million_training_centre_for_the_oil_and_gas_researchers_of_tomorrow.page\" target=\"_blank\">full press announcement<\/a>). As a consequence we have three funded PhD studentships on offer every year for the next three years. Projects eligible for this funding can be found at the <a href=\"http:\/\/noc.ac.uk\/gsnocs\/projects\/projects-by-available-funding\/projects-eligible-for-nerc-oil-and-gas-cdt-funding\" target=\"_blank\">GSNOCS Oil &amp; Gas CDT projects page<\/a>. The students will be part of a wider educational consortium, led by Heriot-Watt and involving a further 16 institutions across which an additional twenty-seven PhD&#8217;s are also being advertised today, see<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pet.hw.ac.uk\/research\/nerc-cdt-oil-gas-academic-partnership.htm\"> www.pet.hw.ac.uk\/research\/nerc-cdt-oil-gas-academic-partnership.htm<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n<p>These studentships represent an excellent post-graduate experience as in addition to the specific challenges of the individual research projects the students will also undertake a\u00a020-week high-quality training package.
