{"id":494,"date":"2014-01-20T07:42:24","date_gmt":"2014-01-20T07:42:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/ggblog\/?p=494"},"modified":"2014-01-20T13:46:22","modified_gmt":"2014-01-20T13:46:22","slug":"cross-disciplinary-conferencing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/ggblog\/2014\/01\/cross-disciplinary-conferencing\/","title":{"rendered":"Cross-disciplinary Conferencing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Cross-disciplinary Conferencing 11\/01\/14<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Society of Historical Archaeology (SHA) holds an annual conference for the sharing of research spanning across both terrestrial and underwater archaeological themes. This year the conference was held in the city of Queb\u00e9c from the 8<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 12<sup>th<\/sup> January. The call for papers closed back in July 2013 and I was delighted to find my paper on \u2018The taphonomy of historic shipwreck sites: implications for heritage management\u2019 had been accepted within the session entitled \u2018Conservation for underwater archaeology\u2019. Whilst I was not trained as an archaeologist the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI) has been hugely supportive of my cross-disciplinary studies, enabling me to attend this conference so far afield in both terms of its discipline and location. I received even more great news more recently when I was awarded the ACUA George Fischer student travel prize. The award has not only been hugely beneficial in supporting me financially but also, as a somewhat unanticipated side-effect, greatly boosted the number of attendees to my presentation.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 412px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sha2014.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sha2014.com\/images\/slider\/slideimg.jpg\" width=\"412\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Society for Historical Archaeology 2014 Conference Logo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Due to the foul weather that plagued North America many of the attendees and presenters struggled to reach Queb\u00e9c in time. As a result the conference set up a catch-up session to be split into terrestrial and underwater archaeology.
