The results of their study, which used data collected during the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/oes\/research\/projects\/barrier-dynamic-experimentii.page\">Barrier Dynamics Experiment II<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/bardex2.blogspot.co.uk\/\">BARDEX II<\/a>);\u00a0a large EU funded project, part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hydralab.eu\/\">Hydralab IV<\/a> framework have been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0278434315300625\">recently published<\/a> in Continental Shelf Research.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a6o0hGwWNLg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The study aimed\u00a0to provide insight into the spatial (time) and scale (frequency) relationships between wave-generated boundary layer turbulence and event-driven sediment transport beneath irregular shoaling and breaking waves in the nearshore of a prototype sandy barrier beach.\u00a0To this end, they employed a variety of techniques \u00a0to assess the anisotropy and intermittency of\u00a0Reynolds&#8217; stresses (exchanges of momentum);\u00a0and the\u00a0contribution to stress generation and sediment mobilisation, of different\u00a0types of\u00a0coherent vortex structures within the wave\u00a0boundary layer, including statistical, quadrant and spectral analyses. The entertainment of sediment by small and large scale vortices was assessed using\u00a0wavelet analysis.
