{"id":2012,"date":"2015-02-11T17:08:23","date_gmt":"2015-02-11T17:08:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/evoice\/?p=2012"},"modified":"2015-02-18T13:11:17","modified_gmt":"2015-02-18T13:11:17","slug":"making-impact-new-report-highlights-economic-social-impact-university-southampton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/evoice\/making-impact-new-report-highlights-economic-social-impact-university-southampton\/","title":{"rendered":"Making an impact: report highlights economic and social impact of University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With over 23,000 students, 6,000 members of staff, and seven campuses \u2013 five of which are in Southampton \u2013 ours is the largest university on the south coast.<\/p>\n<p>A new report, launched this week, outlines the significant economic and social impact resulting from the University of Southampton\u2019s activities, viewed from a local, regional and national perspective.<\/p>\n<p>Conducted by leading independent economic consultancy, BiGGAR Economics, the study demonstrates how the activities of the University create benefits and impacts for both the economy and for society, underlining the University\u2019s role as a major contributor to the local area of Southampton, the wider region and the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Their report shows that in addition to our activities in education and research and purchase of goods and services, the University drives economic impact through partnership with businesses and the public sector, leading to invention and innovation in products, services, policy, strategy and health care delivery and also the creation and growth of businesses.
