Building on regional, national and international strengths in applied research the NIHR Wessex CLAHRC aims to improve the health of people in Wessex and the quality and cost-effectiveness of health care. Through a world leading programme of applied health research and increased engagement of stakeholders (patients, providers, commissioners) we aim to bring about a stepped change in innovation and the integration of and pathways of care for long term conditions. With a focus on local NHS priorities of care quality and reducing hospital admissions/re-admissions activities will centre on six research and implementation themes.
The NIHR CLAHRC Wessex has six thematic programmes of work. The collaboration aims to demonstrate high organisational commitment, involvement of relevant managers and managers from partner organisations (health related) and considerable interest in identifying problems that can be resolved by Operational Research modelling solutions. The themes involve a focus on systems change requiring modelled solutions:-
- Achieving sustainable improvements in respiratory health through integrated care
- Ageing and Dementia: improving routine clinical care
- Delivering high quality fundamental care in hospital
- Public Health and primary care:- targeting antibiotic use and preventing chronic liver disease
- Patient engagement with self-directed support for long term condition management
- Minimally disruptive healthcare: complexity, patient experience and organisational behaviour
These themes have identified the need for data analysis and other modelling service input additionally we are committed to responding to needs for responsive mode data analysis that arise out of a process of prioritisation from our NHS and other CLAHRC partners . The data analyst post will be one of a number which constitute the Wessex Applied Health and Implementation Sciences Methodological Hub. The methodological hub is situated in CAF (add details). It is envisaged that the hub will constitute 6 core posts of differing methodological expertise including health modelling ,meta-synthesis, health economics, statistics, qualitative research/metasyntheis.
The aims of the Wessex Applied Health and Implementation Sciences (WAHIS) Methological Hub are:-
- To provide methodological expertise and input to the CLAHRC programmes of research and implementation
- To become a centre of excellence in implementation health science research.
- Increase local, regional and national awareness of the potential of implementation science research in healthcare associated with the Wessex CLAHRC.
- Promote the exchange of knowledge between WAHIS researchers at the University of Southampton and NHS and other Wessex CLAHRC partners.
- Develop the facility to leverage funds and programmes of work which align to the Wessex CLAHRC.
- Disseminate research findings via appropriate journals and local/regional NHS and academic networks.
Working with NHS staff, the WAHIS methodological hub will prioritise projects in relation to the:-
- Programme needs of each of the six themes.
- Fit and work with the Wessex partner strategic priorities including the Wessex Academic Health and those of Clinical Commissioning Groups when they become fully operational.
- Engage in shared learning between Wessex CLAHRC partners.
