{"id":7,"date":"2013-10-09T10:30:02","date_gmt":"2013-10-09T10:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/careershub\/?p=7"},"modified":"2013-10-09T10:37:19","modified_gmt":"2013-10-09T10:37:19","slug":"entrepreneur-first-visits-fish-on-toast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/careershub\/2013\/10\/09\/entrepreneur-first-visits-fish-on-toast\/","title":{"rendered":"Entrepreneur First visits Fish on Toast!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ECS graduate Nick Angeli returned to the University on Thursday evening to give a presentation to students as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.entrepreneurfirst.org.uk\">Entrepreneur First<\/a> team.<\/p>\n<p>Over 100 students were present at the event organized by Fish on Toast, the student entrepreneurs society, as part of their \u2018Young Entrepreneurs\u2019 series.<\/p>\n<p>Entrepreneur First is particularly applicable to students since it was specifically set up to help people start companies when they leave university \u2013 \u2018It\u2019s a start-up for start-ups\u2019, said Chief Executive, Matt Clifford,\u2019which wants to help the UK\u2019s most talented students build businesses.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/careershub\/files\/2013\/10\/P1015903.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-13\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/careershub\/files\/2013\/10\/P1015903-300x169.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/careershub\/files\/2013\/10\/P1015903-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/careershub\/files\/2013\/10\/P1015903-1024x577.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Matt gave a very relevant presentation, full of advice and encouragement for any student entrepreneur, and stressed that Entrepreneur First was an opportunity that was particularly good for people who hadn\u2019t necessarily decided on their business venture: \u2018You don\u2019t need a team and you don\u2019t need an idea,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also warned that \u2018vision\u2019 of the kind that the media has elevated as a key factor in tech start-ups isn\u2019t required \u2013 \u2018But entrepreneurship is a niche activity,\u2019 he warned: \u2018Few people want to be entrepreneurs and few should be!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Nick Angeli joined Entrepreneur First earlier this summer and is currently developing his start-up company, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weave.com\">Weave<\/a> http:\/\/www.weave.com He presented the idea to the audience and explained how Entrepreneur First was helping him progress the idea and develop his business.<\/p>\n<p>Many ECS students are members of<a href=\"http:\/\/fishontoast.co.uk\/\"> Fish on Toast<\/a>, with Alejandro Saucedo, Izi Flajsman and Vlad Velici all serving as committee members.
