I was upgraded from a Junior Gym pass and could now use the gym before, after and perhaps even during school. This was just the beginning of a love affair which has led me to compete nationally in bikini fitness and bodybuilding.

As I became a more frequent user of the gym, I began to network with people who knew a lot more than I did about fitness. It was suggested to me by an old personal trainer that I may like to attend the annual BodyPower expedition, held in Birmingham each year. I agreed, and this was perhaps one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

At the expedition, I saw and met some incredible people. Fitness gurus, Instagram stars and musclemen from all over the world. This experience opened my eyes to the world I desperately wanted to be a part of and it has stuck with me throughout every training session I do.

I now train around six times a week with the same chain of gyms I’ve been with since I was 16, striving to achieve the same level of success as those at BodyPower.

I can solely say that my decision to enter minor bikini fitness competitions has been partly due to meeting many inspirational people, having a fantastic gym, but more importantly- it is a direct result of this one trip to BodyPower.

In April 2017, I will embark on my first major UK competition with the United Kingdom Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (UKBFF). This one experience of BodyPower has, I can say for sure, made me become a more motivated, disciplined and hard-working individual and I hope that next year, I will be on stage at the BodyPower expedition and others will have this same experience.

Kaitlin Tara Gebbie studies BSc Business Management and French at Southampton business school.
