Our Boeing Enterprises Will Soon Be Taking Off<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Ping into the email inbox on a Friday afternoon in late September comes a message from a colleague \u2018Boeing has some unallocated money in its\u2019 University Fund which it could give to Southampton for a compelling new project for the benefit of students. Do you have any ideas Stefan? We need a proposal from you by close of play today!\u2019<\/p>\n

Time to quickly scratch our heads and see how we could get Boeing on-board. There is nothing like pressure to stimulate creative thoughts and its Boeing as well so it better be good!<\/p>\n

What is Boeing? According to its website Boeing is a:<\/p>\n

\u2018$96.1 billion aerospace company. With approximately 160,000 employees across the United States and in more than 65 countries, Boeing is the world’s largest aerospace company and top U.S. exporter. It is the leading manufacturer of commercial airplanes, military aircraft, and defense, space and security systems; it supports airlines and U.S. and allied government customers in more than 150 nations.\u2019<\/p>\n

The idea Mark and I proposed to Boeing is to create a Fund to support Business undergraduate students set up some new Enterprises. It was helpful that a member of the Co-design group was around so we could test out the idea with a student colleague. Our initial ideas around what these Enterprises would focus on was shared at the Opening Conference and include:<\/p>\n

1. Consultancy for HE Institutions
\n2. Publishing Ventures
\n3. Technology and Learning
\n4. Training and Development for Schools\/Colleges\/Pupils
\n5. Learning Spaces and Experiences<\/p>\n

All of these activities will draw upon your experiences on the programme and build up your skills and confidence in business activities. Fantastically Boeing agreed and allocated us $7,945 (seriously, this is the very precise figure).<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s next everyone is asking? It\u2019s a great question. There is no definite blueprint. We are together in unchartered territory. The answer lies in the work we will all be doing to make the Enterprises a reality. We need your ideas and energy to do that.<\/p>\n

The co-design work will be a focus for this as will elements of your programme. Starting enterprises from scratch with a seriously big name like Boeing as a key investor is a great opportunity to do something with high profile and great learning outcomes to contribute to your future CV\u2019s.<\/p>\n
