Below is the announcement from Blackboard, make sure to come along and ask any burning questions you have!<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;\u00a0We have the pleasure and privilege of welcoming Dr Alan Whitehead MP to speak with us and join in conversation at our session this Friday. It will be a unique opportunity to engage with a senior government politician who is a member of the Labour Party opposition shadow ministerial team. It is often a lively time in politics but perhaps no more challenging than the present day. Issues to do with the UK&#8217;s response to terrorism, the Syrian conflict, relationships with the Euro-zone and Russia to name but a few. Next week in Paris is a meeting of the UN Climate Change conference. Our visiting speaker is likely to have a keen interest in this given his shadow minsterial brief on renewable energy and sustainable waste in which is is a recognised expert.<\/p>\n<p>Our question for this session is &#8216;Where is the power?&#8217; and the focus is on the relationships between Government , Society and Business. It is your opportunity to put questions of interest around this theme to Alan. The session is planned to be in three parts. Each part will be followed by questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is Government and what is the role of Parliament?<\/li>\n<li>Government Energy Policy&#8211;a case study in balancing business interests with the interests of society.<\/li>\n<li>What is it like to be an MP and Shadow Minister? What was the career pathway and why do it?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Can you please prepare by thinking of one question you would like to ask for each section. This visit is an opportunity to showcase your enthusiasm and ensure Alan is keen to return at a later date to contribute to future modules. Alan used to be a student here at the University.
