On the 22nd<\/sup> March 2016, Dr Mark Gatenby, Dr\u00a0Stefanos\u00a0Marangos and I (Samuel Phelps) visited the Association for Learning Development in Higher Education (or ALDinHE) at the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n

Learning development is a highly discussed term within academia that encompasses the idea that students and staff at higher educational institutions should work together in the development of academic practices such as curriculum or research. Similar to the activities undergoing within our co-design group currently set-up within the business school. We attended because it was an ideal opportunity to learn procedures within other universities and effectively better-them, in order to ensure we really can be one of the leading business schools in the country.<\/p>\n

The first session was a discussion within our groups (tables of around 7 members). The conversation that I sparked was \u201cAre students consumers? What are they buying?\u201d. A question I am sure many of us have had throughout the time as university. We concluded it was similar to that of a gym membership; you can pay the money but unless the \u2018consumer\u2019 puts the effort in, the results will be negligible.<\/p>\n
