After our 8 hour flight (with 2 hour delay) we landed in Sunny Toronto, with the exciting experience of attempting to get to our hotel alive &#8211; every time you enter a car is gambling with your life when Mark is driving! The actual city itself is a bustling hub of activity, with street performers and huge billboards, which posed a striking contrast with the Communists for Canada march in the centre! Our expectations were very much challenged; the first workshop was on Subject Based research and Inquiry &#8211; which was incredibly mentally stimulating and exhausting. Much of the discussion was on very conceptual theories and the connotations associated with different definition and terminology, which helped us to develop clear ideas and collective agreement of partnership. When combined with the analysis of barriers and practical activities regarding the application of Students as Partners this became a very rewarding A striking outcome of the first workshop has been how different fields and disciplines tend to use the words in different ways, brining unique challenges when attempting to construct a universally appealing and successful course working with staff and students as partners. It is somewhat gratifying to realise that the University of Southampton is close to the cutting edge of learning partnership and course co-design, where we combine many facets such as students as creators and change agents and &#8216;Student Created Learning\u2019 (the topic of our next conference in July). There are many ideas that we aim to expand on given our newly acquired knowledge from the workshop &#8211; enabling the curriculum and undergraduate business programmes to not only be more applicable to the business world in developing key skills, but also for making it more enjoyable and engaging for everyone.
