Thomas Davidson<\/a> (left of picture) and Tom Rowledge<\/a>, first year Web Science students and Digichamps here at the University of Southampton, recently ventured into teaching several groups of their peers as part of the Business School’s “Students as Creators and Change Agents<\/a>” Project ( #SBScoCreate) run by Mark Gatenby<\/a> and Lisa Harris. <\/a>This Education Enhancement Fund project is supported by a team of students from across the University who are helping to create structure and content for the common first year of this suite of new Business programmes.<\/p>\n

Module Leader Dr Christophe Mues<\/a> was very enthusiastic in his praise of the students’ efforts:<\/p>\n

\u201cA massive thank you to everyone for designing and running the digital literacy sessions!\u00a0 The feedback I\u2019ve been getting from students is very positive \u2013 they definitely seemed to enjoy them and I think it will really help them get thinking about how to manage their digital identity.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The sessions were delivered face to face for this first running of the module. An interactive quiz as well as several thought-provoking videos focusing on the opportunities and challenges of managing online identities were included. Together with Ashley Stout<\/a>, a Digichamp from the MSc in Digital Marketing programme, the three students are now re-packaging the content they have created into an interactive digital format so it can be used as part of a more blended approach next year.<\/p>\n

Thomas Davidson summed up their first experience of teaching:<\/p>\n

“It was a great experience for me teaching on this module, although something I will admit I was a little apprehensive about doing. It certainly feels very different being on the lecturer side of things, and being awake at 9am suddenly becomes a lot more important! In all seriousness we are really pleased with the feedback we have received from staff and students alike, and would be really keen to do this again.”<\/em><\/p>\n
