Whilst having a common theme of anaerobic digestion, subject matter varied widely, from pot ale to bioelectrochemistry and metagenomics, with everything else in between.<!--more info and photos ....--><\/p>\n<p>Winners of the poster and platform presentation prizes in the 5 categories were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Optimisation of the AD Process\n<ul>\n<li>Presentation: Mr Evangelos Petropoulos, Newcastle University<\/li>\n<li>Poster: Ms Chihiro Masusawa, University of Southampton<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Advanced tools for AD: Towards a biorefinery\n<ul>\n<li>Presentation: Dr Tobias Grosskopf, University of Warwick<\/li>\n<li>Poster: Miss Roshni Paul, Newcastle University<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Industrial applications and novel approaches\n<ul>\n<li>Mr Stephen Robertson, University of Southampton<\/li>\n<li>Dr William Nock, University of Southampton<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Feedstock and digestate utilisation\n<ul>\n<li>Dr Thomas Aspray, Heriot Watt University<\/li>\n<li>Mr Uchenna Egwu, Newcastle University<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Process integration and modelling\n<ul>\n<li>Mr Andrew Coughtrie, University of Leeds<\/li>\n<li>Dr Andrew Rollinson, University of Nottingham<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The top prizes, kindly donated by the Society of Biology, went to Dr Tobias Grosskopf for his presentation on &#8220;Mutational reshaping of metabolism facilitates microbial syntrophy&#8221; and to Ms Chihiro Masusawa for her poster on &#8220;Anaerobic processing of ligno-cellulosic materials for bioenergy production under thermophilic and mesophilic conditions&#8221;.
