MySouthampton mobile service for students

The MySouthampton service is available from Android Market, App Store and on the web at https://soton.ombiel.co.uk/. The app gives you access to information about which modules you are registered on, your timetable*, internal directory search, interactive maps and locations for main campuses, halls and some satellite sites, bus times, news and events, and a pocket guide of key services at the University and within SUSU. Register as a student with your university username and password to access all the above functions.

iPhone/iPad and web users will also be able to use a Friend Locator where they can connect with friends.

Future development includes improved mapping of on-campus routes and footpaths, integration with the library systems, and up-to-date availability of computer workstations rooms across campuses.

eduroam – The new wireless service is now available

There is a new wireless network called eduroam at the University, and we want you to use it! Once your device is configured, eduroam provides secure network access without any timeouts or need to re-login! You can also use eduroam at many other locations in the UK and abroad.

New collaboration portal pilot commences soon

In the next two months, a pilot service for our new collaboration portal will be made available to a cross-section of University users, including students, professional services and academics.

Student email is changing with Microsoft Live@edu

Friday 5th August will see the launch of a new online communication and collaboration service based on Microsoft’s Live@edu. This service will replace the current student email. New students enrolling for the first time this August will be the first users, and existing foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate taught students can expect to be moved around the start of the new academic year. Postgraduate research (doctorate) students will not be moved. More details on move dates for existing students will follow in due course.

SLE project website launched

Today sle.susu.org goes live. The aim of the site is to collect students opinions and give students the opportunity to help co-design their digital learning experience. Come and check this page to get all the latest on what development work is going on, apply to be part of user design group, participate in surveys or try out the new software.

The site will be growing and changing over the coming months so do check back.
