Team Manager 2016/17

Team Manager:

What is your name and where are you from?

My name is Nasko Karaganev. I am Bulgarian.

What is your position in the club? What does that imply? What do you have to do for the club?

This year I am the team manager for the basketball club. My role revolves mainly around two things: to register playing members for the BUCS and National league; and to organise the transport for each away game for each team. The organisation of transport is done mainly via Uni BUCS representatives in the Sabbatical office. However, I must be prepared to find alternative means of transport of the University has shortage of minibuses. Also, the sabbatical office must be kept inform of the end result of every home BUCS games. Besides that, I also encourage people from the club to share any issues to me regarding the activities of the basketball club; as well as helping the committee if help is needed.

For how long have you been playing basketball for? What got you started?

I started playing basketball almost three years ago. In the beginning, I just wanted to try different sports and see what I like. However, basketball grab me immediately when I saw what the 1st team were able to do.

Why do you like/love basketball? What motivates you to go the training sessions?

The continuing encouragement from David Lawrence and Stephen Gore made me focus on developing and improving myself and how to enjoy the sport even more. Once, I started getting better and understand the game, I was amazed by the complexity, dynamics and strategy of the game. This motivates me to keep working and improving on myself.

What is your favourite NBA team? Who is your favourite basketball player? Why?

My favourite NBA team is Minnesota Timberwolves. In the beginning, I chose this team because of the logo, but then stuck with it because of the raw talented basketball players they brought for the past years. I expect them to get better and better each year.

As for favourite player, Michael Jordan will be my go to. He made literally a complete overhaul of what basketball is today. Also, to be honest, I watched “Space Jam”. Besides that, I also support Carl-Anthony Towns. He is a great centre and gets better each game. I just love watching him play.

What was your most memorable moment when playing basketball?

The most memorable moment playing basketball was in one of my training sessions. There we were separated in teams of 4. We had to score a specific number of lay-ups, bank shots and then 3-point shots running from the other side of the court. The team, who finishes first, wins. One successful 3-point hoop and my team wins. In my last strength and breath, I did the shot. I fell down on the ground exhausted and seeing stars with a great smile on my face, we won.

Anything else you want to share?

If you have any issues or topics regarding the club feel free to ask me or any member of the committee. We don’t bite, we just play ball.
