Shaping your university experience

By Julia Kendal |

Student Action LogoOn the 4th February Southampton students will have their opportunity to shape their university experience (over a free lunch!) at an event led by students for students.

If you are:

  • Passionate about education and volunteering
  • Interested in social issues
  • Concerned about the economy
  • Curious about impacts on the environment

SUSU Focus Group Flyerthen this event is for you. Along with students from across all disciplines and campuses you will explore how you want social, environmental and economic sustainability across your curriculum and whole university experience! The ideas developed at this event will catalyse the inclusion of sustainability across the university’s activities.

Past workshops gathering student views and ideas have influenced the development of the SUSU sustainability zone and successfully winning funding for the Southampton BEES programme. In February 2013, students gathered at two focus groups to discuss what “their big deal” was, why sustainability was important and how it should be central to their Students’ Union.

The ideas that came from these focus groups played a key role in the establishment of SUSU’s sustainability zone, a new policy zone leading SUSU on social and environmental issues and helping students to develop their sustainability skills and employability. In July 2013, SUSU and the University won funding from the NUS Students’ Green Fund for the BEES (Business Ethics and Environment Students) Programme, which trains students to transform ethical and environmental practice in local businesses.
